  • Part of the Siemens Energy 8D GIS series introduced in 1968 — more than 24,000 bays installed worldwide with well over 285,000 years of recorded bay operation.
  • Covers transmission voltage classes 245 kV, 420 kV and 550 kV, with short-circuit breaking currents up to 80 kA (245 kV and 420 kV high-rating classes) and rated busbar currents up to 6300 A.
  • Self-compression SF6 interrupter units; stored-energy spring operating mechanism based on the drive concept of the 3AP circuit-breaker family, with maintenance-free charging mechanism.
  • Type-tested gas leakage rate below 0.1 % per year and gas compartment; first major inspection after more than 25 years, expected lifetime over 50 years.
  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor installation; ambient temperature −30 °C to +55 °C (245 kV and 420 kV 63 kA bays) or −25 °C to +55 °C (420 kV 80 kA and 550 kV bays).
