HV Line Arrester 3EV1 (EGLA), Externally gapped line arrester, SVU based on 3EL1, ≤252 kV (IEC 60099-8)

  • EGLA to IEC 60099-8: external series spark gap galvanically isolates the SVU — no leakage current under normal service conditions
  • Limits ground-fault current from several kA to a few amperes and extinguishes the arc within the first half-cycle (~10 ms) — no circuit-breaker reclosing operation needed
  • SVU based on the 3EL1 silicone-rubber Cage Design™ arrester (IEC 60099-4), line discharge class 2/3, 65 kA short-circuit rating
  • No disconnector and no ground lead — highly compact, suited for multi-circuit towers with short cross-arm clearances and for live installation
  • Metal-oxide surge arrester for overhead transmission lines, system voltages 3.6–252 kV

Representative series-varistor-unit (SVU) ratings from the 3EL1 phase-arrester tables (HV surge arresters brochure pp. 35–37) — the 3EV1 EGLA uses a 3EL1-based SVU per IEC 60099-8; the external series gap means a lower arrester rated voltage is required than for a gapless design.
